Mount Royal Tavern

1204 W Mt Royal Ave
Featured artist Alison Kipe is a local Baltimore resident with a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Studio Art from Drew University. Her current series explores the effects of color when used to represent sound in music. These pieces are a visual transcription of a song’s sheet music set onto a grid with the notes organized by a color gradient. The pieces incorporate texture to represent the body and auditory feel of the sounds. Surrounding the grid is a flat dark pool of color representing the silence. The work explores whether sound and color evoke similar feelings when experienced with equal weight.
